The Author Behind
THE BIRTH OF THE OTHER

Vanessa is a retired mathematics teacher with extensive experience in teaching Information Technology, including Computer Programming, Geography, and Astronomy. She has lived and worked in various countries, including England, Scotland, Botswana, Ethiopia, Colombia, El Salvador, Spain, Qatar, and Uzbekistan. Throughout her journey, she has married, divorced, and reunited with her husband. Together, they have four children born between 1985 and 1997. Two of their children reside close to them in Scotland, while the eldest and youngest live in the South of England, whom they see less frequently. Nowadays, Vanessa spends half her time helping with her grandchildren, four out of five of whom live in Scotland. Her free time is dedicated to writing and reflecting on life’s challenges.
Vanessa, like many of her generation, is deeply concerned about the state of the world and the legacy left for future generations. She believes that people are shaped by their life experiences, and she has had many. The rights and freedoms of women are particularly close to her heart. She was fortunate to have parents who did not restrict her freedoms because she was female. They encouraged her to explore independently from the age of twelve and supported her decision to travel to Finland to work as an au pair at eighteen, funded by her part-time job savings. Coming from a low-income background, Vanessa experienced periods of financial hardship during her youth.
The lack of support for young families shocks her greatly. Despite being the sixth wealthiest country in the world, or at least London holding the majority of the wealth, there are still children who cannot thrive in a secure home with enough food to grow into healthy and confident individuals. Vanessa is also deeply concerned about the growth of large multinational organizations, greed, inequality, the rise of Artificial Intelligence, pesticides and carcinogenic substances in food, genetic engineering, climate change, environmental destruction, and the power of the military-industrial complex.
Vanessa’s books highlight these concerns, among others, and she is interested in hearing thoughts from her readers.
